4.1 gives the WebSuite family a big push forward with the re-factoring of security and search.

Security improvements provide more granular control of record management with the addition of security roles that extend the dnn security architecture, more on this can be found in my previous blog.

Lets have a closer look at the new search module included in 4.1.

Having abstracted the new search functionality to it’s own module has added many new possibilities to how you designed your site, this has allowed us to extend the number of fields being searched to be more manageable.

We decided to stay with the layered / faceted design found in 4.0, this provides a drill down effect that more of your higher end sites are providing.

Search modules can be placed on a number of pages allowing for landing pages to exemplify your offerings, while allowing for additional refinement once on the inventory list page.

A full set of searchable fields have been added for complete flexibility on how the end user drills down on the record set. This is modified with the designer by adding or removing tokens within the layout and consist of DropDownList and ListBox controls. Module settings allow for post back, search link, clear link, and list population behaviors.

Thank you, Salar Golestanian and your accredited team for all the feedback during the development of 4.1.

Robert
